I am responsible for the Social Science curriculum as well as teaching all of the Social Science workshops. This is my fourth year at Natomas Charter School and I could not have wished for a better place to be.
Before I came to Natomas Charter School, I taught at San Juan High School in the San Juan Unified School District for two years. I currently hold a Single Subject Clear Credential in Social Science and earned my Preliminary Single Subject in Social Science at CSU, Sacramento in 2004. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from CSUS in 2002. I also have a background in Speech Pathology.
I live in Sacramento with my husband and daughter. Our daughter will be one year old in September which is hard to believe. I am not sure where the time goes! I like to do projects around the house (it was built in 1925 so I HAVE to do projects!), work in the yard, travel, camp, cook, bike ride, play with my daughter, visit with family both near and far and relax when I get the chance! My husband is a teacher at American River College so we are fortunate to have time off to spend as a family and to travel.
As an educator, my top priority is that students learn. My philosophy is that student learning, school climate, and communication between parents and teachers are extremely important. I believe when students are held to high standards they are offered more opportunity for success. This is why I believe it is important to promote the highest quality curriculum. I am committed to doing my best to make sure that students in the ILP program are given the best opportunity to be successful.
There are many elements that need to come together in order for students, teachers, parents and administrators to be successful in their role in student achievement. It is critical that each person involved in student learning understand their responsibility, know what to expect and what they are expected to do, create trusting relationships with all of those involved and give forth their best effort. I am confident that ILP has all of the elements required to be a successful learning environment for students which is why I am so happy to be here.
